An Affordable Ward 7
Affordability is about more than property taxes. It is about the total cost of living in our community.
Families are paying for property taxes, water and wastewater, electricity, natural gas, transit, recreation fees and many other everyday expenses. City Council cannot control every one of those costs, but every decision it makes should consider the overall financial pressure residents are already facing.
My Commitment
I will not support increasing the municipal tax levy above the rate of inflation.
That means making responsible choices, setting priorities and looking for efficiencies before asking residents to pay more.
I bring experience working with budgets and financial information through my professional career, my work in the financial sector and service on major governance boards. I understand the importance of asking questions, reviewing the numbers and making sure spending decisions are sustainable and sound.
As councillor, I will:
Keep municipal tax increases at or below inflation
Scrutinize major spending decisions and ask whether they are necessary, affordable and providing value
Consider the total cost to residents, including City-controlled water, wastewater, transit, recreation and user fees
Look for efficiencies and outside funding before placing additional costs on property taxpayers
Protect essential services and infrastructure while ensuring Ward 7 receives its fair share of City investment
Make budgets easier to understand, so residents know where their money is going and what they are getting in return
Affordability cannot simply mean keeping one line on the tax bill down while increasing fees somewhere else. Windsor’s approved budget includes a separate schedule of user fees, and wastewater charges are also established separately from the property-tax levy.
My approach is simple: respect taxpayers, find efficiencies, understand the numbers, establish clear priorities and make every dollar count.
